I had a BuyAGift voucher from last year, and after spending a lot of time deciding how to use it, we finally chose the 'Walk with Alpacas' experience offered by Wetley Moor Alpacas. It turned out to be a great choice, as walking with these adorable animals was such a fun and memorable way to use the voucher!

Wetley Moor Alpacas, based in Staffordshire, have a range of alpaca-related activities perfect for family outings or special events. You can enjoy various experiences like:

- Alpaca Trekking: which involves walking with alpacas across Wetley Moor Common. It is suitable for all ages and includes a health and safety briefing.
- Alpaca Meet and Greet: which includes meeting, petting, and learning about the alpacas.
- Alpaca Yoga: a unique experience that combines yoga with the presence of alpacas. This is a limited availability experience with a number of dates available throughout the year.
- Special Events: Wetley Moor Alpacas also caters to hen parties, school groups and large group bookings offering tailored experiences for such groups.
- Seasonal Events: When we visited in the last week of October, they had a 'Alpacas & Pumpkins' event where you could pick a pumpkin from their pumpkin patch also get up close, meet and feed the alpacas.

Walk with the Alpacas

After our earlier bookings being cancelled due to inclement weather, we finally had the chance to go on the alpaca walk, and it was a fantastic experience! It was a 60-minute adventure where we trekked with these gentle animals across the scenic Wetley Moor Common. After a short health and safety talk to make sure everyone felt comfortable, we got to meet the alpacas up close and start our walk. The guides were very knowledgeable, sharing fun facts about alpacas, their behavioural traits and how to care for them along the way.

The setting was beautiful and I loved how calm and friendly the alpacas were especially Harley, the alpaca I was walking. He was the oldest of the lot (at 8 years) and such a gentle and patient alpaca.

There were plenty of moments to stop and take photos, so I have some wonderful memories captured. It was an activity suitable for all ages, making it easy to enjoy with family or friends. After the walking session, we also got some time to feed the alpacas.

Feeding the alpacas

Walking with alpacas through the peaceful landscapes of Wetley Moor Common was such a unique and relaxing experience, and I’d definitely recommend it to anyone looking to do something a little different outdoors.
