Flight Club Social Darts, Shoreditch
Flight Club is the world’s first Social Darts venue that has reinvented the game of darts for the 21st century. The traditional game has been given a makeover with a unique dart tracking technology, automatic scoring and a selection of pre-programmed games, all of which make the game an exciting social experience.
We discovered Flight Club only recently even though they launched in 2015 and more than a million people have visited their venues since then. Currently, Flight Club has venues in Boston, Chicago, Manchester, Birmingham and London (Flight Club Bloomsbury, Islington, Shoreditch and Victoria).
Having looked through their website, I noticed that the venues were a mix of a bar/pub and a darts club with a fabulous and eclectic interior. It looked very intriguing. And so, we made our way to their Shoreditch venue to check it out.
Flight Club's Shoreditch venue is located in one of London's hip hubs and has 12 oches and a capacity of 390 guests. An 'oche' is the space from the throw line to the dartboard; as well the seating area, where guests can eat, drink and enjoy the game. The oches are designed for groups of 12+ people, with a minimum of 6 people required per oche during peak times. If you are visiting in a smaller group, you can opt for Flight Club's Social Roll-up where you get 1-hour slots on arrival (dependant on availability).
The venue has a trendy and fancy decor which is a combination of everything related to darts and the social nature of a bar/pub. Each oche has been designed with great thought and imagination and makes use of a patented dart tracking technology (developed by Flight Club’s own astrophysicist) and other features like instant scoring to make it an exciting social experience. Cameras are aimed at the dartboard from different angles and also at the player(s) and these help to identify the position of each dart thrown on the dartboard and also capture photos and videos of the player(s).
A touchscreen system allows you to select games, keeps the score and lets you know whose turn it is to play. The screen above the dartboard displays all key information and even announces the winner for each game.
There are three markers (lines) on the floor (for the novice, intermediate and pro players) and you can choose to stand behind any of them depending on your skill level and how hard/easy you want to make it. The rules are simple and the games are self-explanatory and easy to play. And once you start playing, the oche is buzzing with energy and excitement and time just flies by. We tried games like Quackshots, Killer, Snakes & Ladders and Demolition and enjoyed all of them.
And then there's the food and drinks which can be directly delivered to your oche if you wish. Or you can enjoy it in the bar area before or after your game. We chose to enjoy the food as we played and it was perfect - kept the momentum of the game going. The selection of drinks is good and there is even something called 'Signature Trophy Cocktails' which is served in Flight Club’s show-stopping trophy cup!
Food-wise the menu has everything - vegetarian, meat-based, gluten-free and vegan. Flight Club is celebrating Veganuary this month with a selection of vegan dishes on offer and some of the dishes on the vegan menu include:
The food was really nice. The service was great and all the staff were pretty helpful.
Flight Club also have something called as 'Stories' where guests are sent a digital collection of photos, videos, boomerangs and the games' leaderboard etc. via email - a great way to relive the experience all over again.
Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The use of modern technology along with the traditional concept of the game made for a fun affair. The staff was great and we loved the food & drinks service to the oche. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this as a group activity for friends, family or even office colleagues.
Each oche has a capacity of up to 15 guests with up to 12 able to play at any time. Based on our experience, we would suggest booking an oche for at least 90 minutes to ensure the best Social Darts experience. Oches are priced at £40 (peak) and £20 (off-peak) per 60 minutes.
