The Nomadic Community Gardens
We stumbled upon this 'secret' and quirky garden when we were out exploring the street art in Brick Lane. With an eclectic collection of all kinds of art, the Nomadic Community Garden is a community project that puts the local area on centre stage. Located in Brick Lane, this place was once derelict but a group of dedicated volunteers have managed to transform it into a beautiful garden featuring graffiti, sculptures, paintings, creative art pieces created from recycled materials and even furnishings built from wooden pallets and scrap material. It is an enchanting place, very different from any other garden we have visited.
The whole place has a friendly and creative vibe and as you explore the small garden you will spot surprises around every corner. It is amazing what can be achieved with community effort. This place, which was once a wasteland, is now a lovely garden which showcases the creativity of those associated with it. The park is popular with locals who do not have a garden as also with travellers/tourists.
When we visited, the garden wasn't busy but we learnt that during the warmer months and on weekends it tends to draw in a lot of people. There is a small makeshift cafe and a bar in the garden and ample seating area, so you can grab a quick bite or enjoy a drink while taking in the art all around you.
The Nomadic Community Garden is not your typical 'touristy' garden. But if you enjoy visiting secret spaces, love art and creativity or are looking for an alternative place to spend time at, definitely do visit this garden. It is fun, colourful and everyone is welcome!
