Ramblinns art breaks with landscape artist Georgie Watson
Kent, popularly known as the 'Garden of England', has breathtaking English landscape. Come this May, independent inn group Ramblinns are all set to launch art holidays at The Woolpack Inn in Warehorne. To be led by local landscape artist Georgie Watson, these art holidays will see guests enjoying sketching and painting in the beautiful Kent countryside.
Guests can pick from 1-day or 2-day courses both offering the opportunity to combine a countryside break with the chance to learn or brush up on existing painting skills.
The location | The Woolpack Inn
The art courses will be offered at the Woolpack Inn located in the peaceful and picturesque village of Warehorne. Opposite the inn is the St Matthew’s church, which stands upon the Old Saxon shoreline and looks over the Romney Marsh, making it an ideal location for an art session.
Guests choosing the 2-day course will have their own room at the Woolpack Inn. There are five rooms at the inn - Honeychild, Josephine, Frederick, Niddy and Noddy - all of them comfortable and quirky! Check out my thoughts on the Honeychild room at the Woolpack Inn.
The Art Courses
The Ramblinns Art breaks are for all artistic levels - from beginners to those who are wanting to brush up on their existing skills and includes different media - pencils, watercolour, acrylic, oils, conté, pastels etc. All the art equipment and materials are provided and guests will be introduced to outdoor painting and sketching. Georgie will offer guidelines on expressive mark-making, colour mixing and experimenting with different mediums.
After the quick introduction at the Woolpack Inn, the guests will head out to explore the immediate surroundings and pick which view they want to paint.
The Artist and Tutor | Georgie Watson
Georgie Watson is a local, landscape painter who works from her studio at the Rye Creative Centre in Rye. You can see Georgie's passion for water sports and the various elements of nature reflected in her work. According to Georgie
I observe the ever changing beauty of the environment around me and express it through a variety of mediums. My initial sketches are made out in the field and the final paintings and prints evolve in the studio.
Not only is Georgie talented, she also has the knack of putting her students at ease. This was my first painting class and Georgie was very encouraging, offering constructive feedback and having a relaxed chat with us (the students).
My experience
I had the opportunity to attend one of Ramblinns' art courses in March and it was a fabulous experience. I went not knowing what to expect and I had so much fun that I did not want to head back home after the course. I went as a beginner and came back having learnt a few things about composition, perspectives, styles of painting, different mediums of painting and much more. It was good to disconnect from the Internet world, get inspired by the beautiful surroundings and try my hand at painting. It was certainly an experience that I will not forget.
I would recommend the art break for anyone who is interested to learn about painting/drawing and also wishes to enjoy the beauty of Kent countryside.
