Wigwam® Holidays Great Tregath | Review
Glamping has become very popular in the UK. There are a number of reasons, I feel. The increasing prices of overseas holidays mean that many families are opting for UK staycations. Apart from budget issues, the idea of travelling domestically and reducing carbon footprint is also another reason. Plus a large number of glamping sites with modern facilities are emerging in the UK attributing to the rise in the popularity of glamping.
Wigwam® Holidays are one of the UK's leading glamping accommodation providers. They are perfect for family trips or a couple's romantic hideaway and with over 80 sites nationwide (in some really stunning locations like the Wigwam® Glenvlet Site in the Cairngorms National Park) it is no wonder that they are one of the most popular glamping accommodation providers.
Wigwam® Holidays Great Tregath
Our recent visit to Cornwall saw us staying for a couple of days at Wigwam® Holidays Great Tregath. Set in beautiful farmland in Cornwall (close to the coast), this is one of Wigwam® Holidays' newest sites and we visited them on their opening weekend. We were the first guests to arrive at the Wigwam® Site. So exciting!
When we arrived at the Wigwam® Site, we were met by Craig Blackburn, the owner of the new site. After quick introductions and a little chat about the Wigwam® Site, the facilities, and the local area, Craig showed us to our Wigwam® Cabin. There are a total of six Running Water Deluxe Wigwam® Cabins on the site and each comes with its own car parking space.
Our Wigwam® Cabin was named 'Milton' and had a double bed and a double sofa bed that could be converted into a bed if needed. There was an ensuite shower, toilet, sink and a heated towel rail. A small but functional kitchenette with a fridge, microwave, toaster, kettle and two hotplates formed a part of the Wigwam® Cabin. Cutlery and crockery (dinner plates, bowls, mugs, glasses, chopping board and knife, bottle opener etc.) had been provided for four guests. Some basic cooking pans and utensils had also been provided which meant that preparing breakfast in the mornings was an easy task. The Wigwam® Cabin also had a dining table and 4 chairs. And since it was the opening weekend, the owners had provided a bottle of Prosecco to all the guests.
We have stayed in a couple of other Wigwam® Sites and one thing different in the Wigwam® Cabins here was the absence of TV in the cabin. And as Julie (Craig's wife and co-owner of the site) mentioned, holidays are meant to be a chance to get away from the grind of the city and technology. The absence of a TV did not bother us. With so many natural attractions nearby, we were mostly out experiencing the wonders of nature.
Outside the Wigwam® Cabin was a private decking area, a picnic bench and a complimentary fire pit (a unique Kadai fire bowl that is perfect for barbequing).
Craig was also in the process of building a wash down area for surfboards and muddy dogs. They have a few other interesting ideas up their sleeves.
The husband & wife team of Craig and Julie, have created a beautiful Wigwam® Site that is aiming to be a good blend of comfort and being environmentally friendly.
Out and about
There is no shortage of beautiful beaches within easy reach of the Wigwam® Site. Some of the popular ones are Constantine Bay, Daymer Bay, Hawkers Cove, Polzeath Beach (won the Blue Flag Award in 2017) and Trebarwith Strand Beach. In addition to these lovely beaches, you can take your pick from other popular attractions like Tintagel Castle (medieval castle ruins, said to be the birthplace of King Arthur), Rough Tor (pronounced as 'Rowter', it is the second-highest point in Cornwall and a popular spot for walking), Museum of Witchcraft and Magic (dedicated to European witchcraft and magic ) or the Rocky Valley Walk (a spectacularly stunning walk).

With so many natural attractions nearby, it is the perfect place for couples or families looking to escape the city and enjoy the countryside.
Our experience
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Wigwam® Holidays Great Tregath. The best part about Wigwam® Holidays Great Tregath is its location, we feel. It was very quiet and peaceful and is a wonderful place to get away from it all. And the owners, Craig & Julie, are very pleasant and welcoming. If you need any information about the local attractions, then Craig is the person to go to. Also, you can’t visit Cornwall without sampling some Cornish scones. Julie's freshly baked, handmade scones were delicious. We sampled scones at a lot of different places in Cornwall and Julie's were the best! A must-try when you visit the Wigwam® Site.
Various hampers (marshmallow toasting packs, cream teas etc.) are available to order on arrival. You can check the information pack provided in each Wigwam® Cabin.

This place looks adorable....quaint with a cool Scandinavian feel about the design. All the comforts of home. And the best part, of course, is the homemade scones! I’ll have to keep Wigwam in mind the next time we’re in the UK. We love glamping!
ReplyDeleteWigwam® Holidays have sites all across the UK, so you should be able to find one in the area you are planning to visit. And the cabins are comfortable; perfect for couples getaway or a family holiday.
DeleteThis is so cute! I'd be willing to get back to camping if it was always like this. :) My husband loves to grill, so having that patio with the grill on it would definitely be a plus. The location sounds terrific, too. And, yes, I would be all about those homemade scones. :)
ReplyDeleteThose homemade scones were fabulous. I would be happy to go back just for them :)
