Salomon Men's X Ultra Mid 3 GORE-TEX Walking Boots | Dunstable Downs
Whether you’re scrambling up an easy trail, traversing rough, coastal paths or heading into the hills of the Highlands, a good pair of boots are a must to keep your feet in good condition throughout your walking/hiking adventures. We were recently sent Salomon's X Ultra Mid 3 GORE-TEX walking boots and Bhavin put them to test. Over to him.

After an indoor trial, I took the Salomon X Ultra boots out for a test walk in our local country park and the boots felt good on my feet - a snug but comfortable fit with enough room to wiggle my toes. A couple more short excursions later, I wore the boots when we recently visited Dunstable Downs and they were perfect for a spot of gentle hiking and walking in the Bedfordshire countryside.
Dunstable Downs is a National Trust run place and offers beautiful views of the countryside. It is also popular with kite fliers, paragliders, and gliders. There are a variety of walks at Dunstable Downs - Whipsnade and Dunstable Downs walk (which takes in beautiful views of the Downs), a countryside walk (where you will see diverse wildlife and the site of a medieval warren) and a wildlife and heritage walk (which is suitable for buggies and motorised scooters.)

Coming back to the boots, the Salomon X Ultra GORE-TEX walking boots appear to be well built, with a good grip. The boots look stylish and have water resistant textile uppers which are breathable. The mid-cut profile gives additional ankle support and protection making these the kind of boots you would prefer on gentle hikes or extended walks. An OrthoLite insole with EVA heel cup offers good cushioning while an injected EVA midsole gives stability on rocky terrain. The boots also boast of Descent Control technology that offers excellent grip, fit and protection for downhill walks. The GORE-TEX technology ensured that my feet stayed dry and cool even when walking through puddles and wet grass.
Other features of these walking boots include 'Sensifit' lacing system that cradles the foot for a precise and secure fit, protective toe and heel caps and a 'Contagrip' sole that offers good traction. Overall, these boots are well made - strong and sturdy in spite of being lightweight (less than 500g for a single boot), offer good stability and based on my experience so far I feel these boots will be able to go the distance. If you do a lot of walking or hiking, these are a good pair worth investing in.
Tip: If you have wide feet, size up and the fit should be perfect.

Another product from Salomon that was put through its paces (by Deeptha) during our day out at Dunstable Downs was the Wayfarer Utility Pant. Over to her.
Made with a 4-Way stretch double weave fabric, these pants offered excellent comfort. An articulated knee added to the freedom of movement. There are multiple pockets allowing one to keep essentials close. The winning factor for me was the lightweight, stretch material of the pants which made them very comfortable and easy to walk and scramble in. The material was much nicer than what I had expected both in terms of quality and the breathability factor. The pants come in three colours and in different lengths (regular, long and short) making it easy to find one that fits you. These utility pants from Salomon are ideal for walking and hiking. I am impressed and will be wearing them a lot over the coming months.

I have been looking for a lightweight and weatherproof walking trouser for some time now and these Wayfarer Utility pants look like a good option. I just need to check if they offer petite sizes.
