Welcoming pub with relaxed accommodation - The Rose & Crown in Warwick
Well-located just off the Market Place in Warwick is the Rose & Crown, a popular gastro pub with rooms. A couple of weeks back we were in Warwick and the Rose & Crown served as our base. The gastro pub has been twice named in the Top Ten UK pubs in the last few years and it was also voted Best Pub in the UK in 2004. So, we were looking forward to the visit and the pub definitely delivered more than we expected!
As we walked into the pub, we couldn't help but feel the warm and inviting vibe. It oozed atmosphere - a homely feel with appealing modern and quirky décor. We were warmly welcomed by the staff and shown to our room which was in a building right across the lane. The pub has 13 rooms - five directly over the pub and eight (newer ones, from 2013) in the building across the lane.
Our room was stylish and beautifully equipped, with thoughtful touches. It was quite spacious (much more than we had expected), clean and comfortable. Television (with satellite channels), complimentary Wi-Fi, tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryer etc. were provided. The bathroom was clean, spacious (again, it exceeded our expectations) and even had a freestanding roll top bath!
On paper, it’s a pub with rooms but the Rose & Crown is a very cosy place to stay and a fabulous place to eat. I personally felt that comfort was the key in the accommodation - quality furnishings, lots of space and a warm and casual vibe. We liked the room that we stayed in.
There was some noise from people enjoying a night out in the Market Place (on Friday night), but this did not affect our stay and we slept well.
The pub/restaurant was very busy in the evening, but it didn't put us off enjoying the delicious food. Although there was very limited choice for vegetarians, we liked the food we ordered. We opted for Soup of the Day (Cauliflower Soup), Sesame-crusted Halloumi, Green Beans, Broccoli, Cashew, Miso & Tahini Dressing (lovely texture and flavours), Aubergine & Mozzarella Parmigiana, Basil & Pine Nut Salad (very well seasoned), Snicker's Cheesecake (very moreish) and Jude’s Free-range Ice Creams. All the food was delicious. And even though the pub was busy, we were well looked after. Overall, our dinner was excellent and the service levels just as good.
The hearty breakfast (next morning) was the perfect way to kick-start a day of sightseeing in Warwickshire. Service was again helpful and attentive.
With its central location and a very popular pub, the Rose & Crown makes for the perfect night’s stopover en route to the Lake District or Scotland while travelling from London or vice versa. It also makes for a relaxed weekend break in its own right. It is ideally located to explore Warwick and its surroundings. We had a lovely stay at the Rose & Crown and would recommend it when staying in this lovely part of Warwickshire.
Also, if you book 30 days in advance (direct with Rose & Crown), you can receive a 15% discount on the best available bed and breakfast rate.

ReplyDeleteWow looks so lovely! its great to see a review first as well so you can get a feel for the place. Nice thats its quite local too, love Warwick such a beautiful place.
ReplyDeleteGreat review and the pictures are very good. Do you know if are dogs allowed? We are restricted when travelling as we never leave our animals they are part of our family x
ReplyDeleteHi Jane, The Rose and Crown have 4 dog rooms available so your best friend can come with you. It’s an extra cost of £10 including a rasher of bacon or sausage for breakfast. If you are planning to travel with your dog, you need to book by calling them directly and not via the website.
DeleteIt looks lovely, and very clean and cosy, thanks for the review!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a beautiful place and the food looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteThe room looks kitted out with all you would need for a few nights or even overnight stay and the food is making me salivate. It would definitley be a getaway without the kids though as I would be worried about them breaking anything in the room.
ReplyDeleteThis looks a lovely place :)
ReplyDeleteWow, I wouldn't have thought that room was in a pub. It looks like a lovely, luxurious hotel room. :) Do love the bath, always wanted to try one out (in that style - not just a bath lol). The food is also making me hungry. Doni appreciates the fact that "woofities" are allowed. It's not much considering the price of a "dog-sitter" or kennels and the room shown I would never had thought would allow dogs if the dog-friendly rooms are up to the same standard. Makes me want to visit now.
ReplyDeleteThe place looks really beautiful and very cosy
