Kenilworth Castle and Elizabethan Garden | English Heritage
English Heritage's Kenilworth Castle (in Warwickshire), is one of Britain's most iconic castle ruins in the Midlands. It was voted in the Top 10 castles of English Heritage by visitors and social media followers and not without a reason. Kenilworth Castle was built over several centuries, played an important role in history, was the subject of a siege during the English Civil War in the 1260s and also welcomed Queen Elizabeth I in 1575. In its heydays, the castle was known for its grand scale and a high degree of workmanship. Today, although in ruins, the castle is still redolent of the times gone by. Kenilworth Castle is a fascinating family attraction. If you are in Warwickshire, it makes for a good day out.
The castle ruins were lovely - you can go 18 meters up into the tower and the views from the top were spectacular. The beautifully recreated Elizabethan Garden was a fragrant paradise. There were also a couple of exhibitions that take you through the 900-year history of the castle. Overall, it is a lovely place to walk around and the audio guides available in the reception add to the experience.
