Warner Leisure Hotels have thirteen properties across the UK, all of them exclusively for adults. Properties in their collection include Grade I or II listed historic hotels, character hotels and coastal resorts. One of their coastal resorts is the Corton Coastal Village which is located on the Suffolk coast near Lowestoft. With its stunning cliff top sea views, sauna and indoor pool, Holiday shop and a host of other facilities and entertainment options, Corton Coastal Village is one of those places where you could happily spend a week.
The Wensum Lodge
Our stay at Corton was pleasantly surprising. The holiday village seems to have undergone recent refurbishment and our lodge was very comfortable and fully equipped with all mod cons. It was just the kind of relaxing place one would need to enjoy the peaceful tranquillity of the environment. We stayed in No.12 Wensum which looked like a traditional British beach hut from the outside but was furnished luxuriously with modern touches throughout. The lodge also afforded lovely views over the beautiful beach garden.
The bedroom was spacious with a very comfortable bed. The shower-only bathroom was stocked with fluffy bathrobes and toiletries from Temple Spa. A generously stocked tea tray with fresh milk was provided. Homemade cookies, a bottle of wine and savoury treats were waiting for us. Other mod cons in the lodge included iron & ironing board, hairdryer, mini fridge, 2 televisions and a safe. Overall, the lodge was furnished to a very high standard and it had everything that we needed for our short break at hand.
The only minor gripe was the poor phone signal and Wi-Fi connectivity in the lodge. While the connection was good in the main building, it did not work in the lodge. But that did not stop us from having a lovely break.
Dining
The food at Corton was good. Both breakfast and dinner are served at the Clyffe Cabaret Restaurant. The dinner menu changes daily and you can either order food to be served to your table or you can help yourself from the carvery or buffet.
We opted for the 3-course meal to be served at our table. I had the Chef's soup of the day which was filling while Bhavin enjoyed the Roasted Red Onion and Gruyere Tartlet served with a warm potato salad. My main was a Mushroom & Spinach Suet Pudding with Parsley mash and tender stem Broccoli which I quite liked. Bhavin opted for the Chickpea, Sweet Potato & Coriander Tagine served with Cumin rice and Mango Yoghurt. The dish was delicious but the portion size could have been bigger he felt. Desserts were lovely and beautifully presented especially the Sherry trifle that I had ordered. Sherry-soaked sponge, raspberry jelly, custard, topped with fresh cream, meringue and chocolate - it was yummy!
Our waiter was very helpful and friendly. In fact, all the staff in the restaurant appeared to be very friendly, attentive and happy doing their jobs.
I also liked the fact that each room/chalet is allocated a table for the entire duration of their stay. So you can walk in anytime between the dining times (Breakfast 8am-9:30am, Dinner 6.15pm-7.45pm) making it very flexible for the guests.
Entertainment
There is loads on offer when it comes to entertainment at Corton. We had not been to any of the other Warner Leisure Hotels, so were pleasantly surprised by the variety of entertainment. Pre-dinner cabaret, Bingo (8 pm daily), movie screenings in Colman's Movie Theatre, comedy acts and late night discos are some of the entertainment options available in the evenings. In addition to these evening shows, there is a wide selection of daytime activities as well - archery and rifle shooting, Nordic walking, garden tours, indoor bowls, speed snooker, general knowledge quiz, ballet workout, afternoon tea dance, water aerobics, early morning walks and table tennis to name a few. The entertainment staff do their best to keep the guests entertained.
Out and about
There is so much to see and do within easy reach of Corton Coastal Village. You can either relax and unwind at the holiday village or get up and go explore the countryside and coast. At the very end of the Corton site is the access (steps) to the local beach.
Great Yarmouth which boasts of a number of fun things to do is less than half an hour away. The stunning Norfolk Broads are also within easy reach. You could hire a day boat and leisurely meander around the twisting river network. Trust me it is a lot of fun.
Book your holiday
In addition to the Beach Garden Lodges, the holiday village also has other types of accommodation - standard chalets, premier suite chalets and clifftop lodge rooms which offer breath-taking views out to sea.
Weekend breaks at the Corton Holiday Village start from £179pp and mid-week breaks from £229pp. Warner Leisure Hotels also have a number of offers and deals across all their properties.
