The Empire Room Restaurant in Ramsgate | Review
The Empire Room is a 30 cover restaurant located in the basement of Royal Harbour Hotel in Ramsgate. Earlier in May, we happened to be visiting Kent and while there we enjoyed a lovely dinner at this quirky little restaurant. The first thing I noticed as we were ushered into the main dining area was the striking red walls. It was the perfect foil for the warm, old-fashioned wood furniture. An eclectic mix of objects - books, magazine covers and other trinkets - added a unique finish to the room. The ambience and setting were informal and comfortable.
We opted for the Vegetarian dinner menu (3 courses, £22.00) and it was fantastic. We started with a particularly good Pea soup (my pick and it was simple yet flavoursome) and Toasted homemade crumpets with sauteed garlic mushrooms, poached egg and mustard dressing. The blend of flavours was lovely according to Bhavin and the mushrooms simply delectable.
Next, I ordered Spiced potatoes with spinach, roasted cauliflower and coriander. Again a simple dish but packed with flavour. Bhavin tried the Roasted wild garlic infused polenta with tomato & thyme sauce and toasted almonds and said it was delicious - lovely textures, wonderful flavours and the perfect portion size.
Finishing things off was a trio of homemade sorbets for me and an Apple & rhubarb crumble with coconut ice cream for my other half. He said it was absolutely delicious and this was coming from someone who doesn't favour rhubarb much!
Overall, the restaurant experience was really good. The service was good (attentive without being intrusive), the food was cooked beautifully and I think the set menus at the Empire Room are a great value.
