The Covered Market in Oxford
My love for local markets continues to grow and today I bring to you the Covered Market in Oxford. The market has everything you would expect from a local market - lovely ambience, full of colours and fragrances and a great community vibe. There are shops selling everything from fruits & vegetables to hats & books and from jewellery & clothing to souvenirs & aromatic gifts. There are a number of cafes and takeaways selling many different cuisines. A fantastic market with some great independent shops. Definitely worth a visit when in Oxford.
I had three favourites at the Covered Market.
iScream - I could have spent all day here. A small shop but packed with fine British & European chocolates including brands like Charbonnel et Walker, Prestat and Booja Booja. Their fresh gelato & sorbetto experience is not to be missed. I LOVED their Biscotto (Cookies and cream) gelato. It was fresh, flavoursome and absolutely fabulous.
The Cake Shop - The have a large selection of celebration and wedding cakes, in all shapes and sizes. It was wonderful to watch the skilled artists at work as they made the cake decorations. Another shop where I could have spent hours just observing the talented cake artists.
The Oxford Sandwich Co. - After spending a lot of time walking around the market, we headed to the Oxford Sandwich Co. and enjoyed the most generously sized, grilled ciabatta sandwich ever. Yummy and packed full of flavours.
The covered market is centrally located in Oxford and can be accessed from the High Street, Market Street or through Golden cross in Corn market.
