Bohemia Restaurant Review | Exquisite Fine Dining in Jersey, Channel Islands
Bohemia is the 4AA Rosettes and 1 Michelin Star restaurant of Jersey's luxury boutique 5-star hotel, The Club Hotel & Spa. The Head Chef at Bohemia is Steve Smith and he has been with them since 2013. Steve has held a Michelin Star for over 15 years from the age of just 24. He has created an outstanding dining experience at Bohemia with his flavour driven tasting menus. No wonder the restaurant is one of the best in Jersey, recently being ranked as the highest scoring restaurant in the Channel Islands in the Good Food Guide 2017.
The Vegetarian Tasting Menu
I had dinner with my husband at Bohemia last Friday and we opted for the Vegetarian Tasting Menu (£79). As mentioned earlier, the restaurant specialises in tasting menus. In addition to the Vegetarian option they have - Prestige, Pescatarian (Fish) and Classic tasting menus. There is also a 6 Course Surprise Menu, where you don’t know what your 6 courses are going to be.
As is the norm in Michelin starred restaurants, our dinner started with an amuse bouche and the bread service. Bread was served with very delicious butter. The amuse bouche was presented beautifully and had lovely flavours to get the juices flowing - a perfect start to the evening. The bread, freshly made, was excellent.
Next up was Potato, Quail Egg and Cepe. This was an interesting combination of flavours - potato and cepe soup with ice cream. When the dish was explained to us, I was not very sure if I would like the blend of flavours. But it was lovely - an unusual combination that works. This was followed by Slow Cooked Bantam Egg in a Pea Emulsion. The dish was attractively presented, beautifully garnished and had well-defined flavours. It had a wonderful balance between being light and intense at the same time.
Arriving after this was Braised White Asparagus & Morels. The braised white asparagus with the accompaniments tasted delicious. The morels added a unique, nutty flavour. Again the combination of ingredients was excellent, the flavours well-balanced allowing the main ingredient to shine. Next was Roscoff Onion with Kale & Truffle. Simple ingredients but attractively presented and very flavoursome. The main was Heritage Carrot with Sea Vegetables and Sea Buckthorn.
Next, we were served the pre-dessert - Kalamansi Mule. It was the mini-dessert before the main dessert course but it really hit the taste buds. With plenty of ginger flavour, it was fabulous. Our main dessert was Almond Cake with Roasted Pear - lovely combination of flavours and textures and an excellent way to end the meal.

ReplyDeleteI have to ask: do you actually feel full after a tasting menu? I've always wanted to try one but I'm put off by the thought that I might need to stop off at a takeaway on the way home x
ReplyDeleteYes, it is quite filling actually. The portion sizes are perfect and the number of dishes that you get to sample is wonderful - everything adds to the gastronomic experience.

ReplyDeleteThe food was lovely at Bohemia. Even the other guests seemed to be enjoyed the fare.
DeleteWhat beautiful looking food!
ReplyDeleteWow amazing food, looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteAll sounds very posh and looks delicious. Would love to visit Jersey.
ReplyDeleteI wish I didn't have to travel so far to visit restaurants like this, at a stretch we can easily get to a few well known pizza chains! Oh and before I go, what was the quail egg like? I've always been chicken to try one! x
ReplyDeleteThe quail eggs weren't too dissimilar to the chicken eggs in terms of taste. The main difference is the size and the yolk to white ratio.
Deleteabsolutely fabulous
ReplyDeleteLooks delicious
ReplyDeleteI'd love to visit Jersey and sample the foods.
ReplyDeleteLooks very atmospheric.
ReplyDeleteSounds wonderful and the food looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteLooks amazing! You can almost smell it!
ReplyDeleteThis is a really fancy looking restaurant. The presentation of the food is immaculate. Although, unfortunately, the portion size also seems to be in line with other high class restaurants. For me, that is always the disappointing characteristic of places like this. One day someone will open a restaurant that offers delicious food, impeccable presentation, a beautiful environment and also large enough portions to satisfy a grown man.
ReplyDeleteThe presentation of food was excellent and it scored good in terms of taste as well. Regarding portion sizes, I felt it was proportionate and quite filling but then it is a personal choice. But you could try it if your visit Jersey - it is a lovely restaurant with excellent service.
DeleteLooks beautiful!
ReplyDeleteLooks delicious, it's making me want to go there just to try the food.
ReplyDeleteIt looks wonderful, though I'm not a big fan of having my food to "messed about with" - I would much prefer a good Sunday Roast!
ReplyDeleteWow - elegant and delicious, getting hungry!
ReplyDeleteBohemia sounds amazing and certainly sounds worth a visit . Locally we are actually quite short of good restaurants despite being a cosmopolitan city .
ReplyDeletethe interior of the restaurant looks superb the food looks lavish and mouth watering lovely

ReplyDeleteHow great that there is a vegetarian tasting menu! This looks delicious & I'd be tempted to choose this even though I'm not a veggie!
ReplyDeleteThe dishes look fabulous, so perfectly presented. I'd love to visit a michelin starred restaurant just to look at the food! I'm a vegetarian so my menu would be different but hopefully just as tasty. Never been to Jersey but would love to visit.

ReplyDeletelooks amazing, iv never been but have been told its one place to visit for sure
ReplyDeleteFantastic photos, really make the place look worth a visit.
ReplyDeleteIt's great that they offer a vegetarian option which contains unusual and tasty dishes. I'm vegetarian and often find that the vegetarian options are a bit boring - frequently some sort of pasta with sauce which quite frankly I could make at home.
ReplyDeleteYummy dishes just simply scrumptious xx
ReplyDeleteThink I might start hinting to the hubby for our 25th wedding anniversary :)
ReplyDeleteGosh I wish there was one of these a bit closer - it looks amazing :)
