A Short and Lovely Stay at The Brudenell in Aldeburgh
Located on the Suffolk Coast, The Brudenell Hotel is one of Aldeburgh's finest hotels and serves as an excellent base for a seaside holiday. The hotel is a part of the TA Hotel Collection, a group of award-winning, luxury hotels located across the resplendent Suffolk. The Brudenell is not only perfect for a few nights away but also caters to conferences and events.
It was a two-hour drive from Enfield to Aldeburgh and we arrived a little late in the afternoon. The hotel has a small car park at the back and there is free parking along some of the roads to the back of the hotel. Luckily when we arrived, there was space in the hotel's car park. Our check-in was very quick, we were warmly welcomed and within minutes we were personally shown to our room.
We stayed in one of the deluxe sea view rooms - a generously sized and luxurious room with a large bay window that offered excellent panoramic views of the sea. There was also a small personal sitting area. The room had a king-sized bed furnished with duck feather pillows and thick mattress toppers. The room was tastefully furnished with some nautical elements added to complement the location. A flat-screen TV, free Wi-Fi and a hospitality tray were provided. A nice, welcoming touch was the personally written note and a small box of chocolates that was waiting for us in our room.
The bathroom was a good size and included a bath and a walk-in shower. Bathrobes, slippers and Rituals toiletries were provided.
The only minor grouse was a small damp patch near the window. It wasn't really an issue for us but it would have been nicer had it not been there.
Overall, we were pleased with the bedroom - it was spacious, nicely furnished and the bed was comfortable which meant we had a good night's sleep. But the best part was the view from the room. The seating area near the bay window overlooking the sea was my favourite spot in the room. It was so relaxing to watch the waves crashing on the beach. When we visited Aldeburgh, the weather was lovely and we spent a lot of our time outdoors. But if it is raining or too windy, you can stay in your cosy room and still enjoy uninterrupted views of the sea.
The Seafood and Grill restaurant in the hotel offers a relaxed and informal setting to enjoy your meal. The restaurant has a vibrant décor and ambience and you can enjoy panoramic views of the sea along with the food. Pre-dinner drinks are served at the bar and the restaurant's menu features fresh local seafood among other things. Both myself and my husband being vegetarians, so I conveyed our dietary preferences to the hotel in advance. We dined at the restaurant in the evening and were quite pleased with the choice for vegetarians. The food tasted as good as it looked. The presentation was thoughtful, the food flavourful and the whole meal experience enjoyable.
Heritage tomato panzanella salad
Crisp hens egg, asparagus, samphire
Grilled aubergine, pine nuts, pearl cous cous, apricot, saffron preserve
Local asparagus and wild garlic risotto
A part of the outside terrace is used for al fresco dining while the other part with contemporary lounge type furniture is reserved for guests to relax and enjoy their drinks.
Aldeburgh is a small town. You can walk from one end of the town to the other in under an hour. There are many sights to see - Moot Hall, Martello Tower, The Scallop, Fort Green Mill and the RNLI station. And you have the long stretch of shingle beach. The area around Martello tower is good to explore and there are many other walks in the area as well. The team at Brudenell are happy to provide maps and information about the local attractions.
The accommodation was lovely and the food was marvellous but the best part about the hotel is its location (so close to the sea that you can hear the waves crashing on the shingle beach) and the fantastic service by the staff. All of the staff we encountered during our stay were friendly, professional and their service impeccable. And it was not just us; we spoke to another family who were holidaying there and they also commented on the remarkable service from the staff.
Prices start from £155.00 per room (Double Aldeburgh) per night including breakfast. Prices for the Deluxe Sea View room start from £275.00 (including breakfast) and £339.00 (includes breakfast and dinner). You can avail of special offers and added value deals if you book directly with the hotel. To make a reservation call The Brudenell on 01728 452071.
