A Wonderful Holiday at The Sherwood Hideaway in Nottinghamshire
If you follow me on social media you will already know about our trip to Nottinghamshire recently. For those who are joining in late, we recently spent four lovely days at The Sherwood Hideaway - a woodland retreat of luxury lodges located near Sherwood Forest. With Sherwood Hideaway as our base, we explored some of the attractions in Nottinghamshire.
Located in the beautiful Thoresby Estate, the Sherwood Hideaway is a collection of incredible log cabins that offer the luxury and comfort one would expect from a top hotel along with your own private space and lovely personalised touches that make your holiday bespoke and unique. The Sherwood Hideaway offers different types of cabins - rustic, contemporary and traditional - each suited to different family sizes but all of them comfortably styled and in sync with the forest setting.
We stayed in one of the Woodland Rustic lodges, a 2-bedroom cabin with beautifully designed interiors. In addition to the well-appointed bedrooms, the cabin had a master ensuite, a family bathroom, a very well-equipped open plan kitchen, a spacious living room that led onto the private outdoor decking with a hot tub. The bedrooms were cosy and comfortable - a spacious twin bedroom and a dreamy master with a four-poster bed. Towels, bathrobes and slippers were provided and so were toiletries from Molton Brown.
The open plan kitchen had every utensil/gadget that I needed. It really felt like the team at Sherwood Hideaway had given a thought to every little thing while kitting up the cabins. When we arrived at the cabin we found a box of local, handmade chocolates and a bottle of wine waiting for us. This 'welcome pack' was a lovely personal touch from Sherwood Hideaway. Welcome packs vary based on the type of cabin you have booked for your stay.
As mentioned earlier, the kitchen was well-equipped and preparing breakfast was a breeze. The information guide in the cabin lists out all the nearby pubs, restaurants and takeaways and you can order food to be delivered to your cabin should you not feel like cooking.
Wi-Fi is available in the holiday retreat - it is free in the reception while there is a £2.50 charge per device in the lodges. The connection was not consistent and we even had problems with the phone signal. This is due to the remote location of the cabins and we personally did not have any problem with this aspect. It was good to be totally cut off from the world! No constant beeps and buzzes from the phones - just peace and tranquillity.
But the best part about the cabin was the private hot tub on the outdoor decking. The tub was checked daily by a member of staff and there were no restrictions on when we used it. It was perfect - especially in the cold evenings after a woodland walk. Nothing like relaxing in a hot tub looking up at the stars! We stayed in cabin no. 21 and the view of the woodlands from our outdoor decking was lovely.
Sherwood Hideaway is located on Thoresby Estate and offers a wonderful base for walkers and cyclists. There are way-marked walks and woodland trails leading to Thoresby Park and Sherwood Forest. If you prefer to drive, then it is just under 15 minutes to the Sherwood Forest Country Park and Visitor Centre. You can explore the forest trails which will take you past the Major Oak (an ancient oak that is thought to be 1000 years old ). The walks offer amazing scenery combined with intriguing stories of Robin Hood.
Other popular attractions nearby are Nottingham Castle, Wollaton Hall, Rufford Abbey Country Park and Clumber Park. The historic market town of Newark is also nearby. The town is known for its traditional cobbled marketplace and market-days held on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
For the adventurous types there are a lot of activities (rowing, sailing, power boating) to try out at the Nottingham National Water Sports Centre. Segway experiences are also available at the Sports Centre. Closer to the hideaway, you can use the gym, swimming pool and spa facilities at Thoresby Hall for a discounted price.
Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at the Sherwood Hideaway. The location is perfect - discretely nestled in the woodlands, offering peace and quiet yet not very far from the local sights and shops. The lodges were a little closer than we had expected but the hideaway was very peaceful - all we could hear was the chirping of the birds. The cabin was luxurious, clean and well appointed. The staff were helpful and had good knowledge of the local area. Sherwood Hideaway is a beautiful retreat to get closer to nature. We had a truly amazing stay and will definitely be back! If you are looking to book a restful break or a romantic getaway, then Sherwood Hideaway is the place to go.
Sherwood Hideaway have six different types of cabins including ones that are pet friendly. Short breaks in the Woodland Rustic Lodges start from £473 while 7 night breaks begin from £825. Sherwood Hideaway have special offers from time to time. For more information on the luxury lodges and to book a break, check out Sherwood Hideaway's website.
