Maison Talbooth : A Charming, Luxury Country House Hotel in Dedham Vale, Essex
Located just outside Colchester, Maison Talbooth is a charming, small hotel that scores big on luxury. With its stunning countryside views, beautiful suites, a heated outdoor pool, relaxing hot tubs and spa facilities, this country house hotel is an excellent place to relax and indulge yourself.
When it comes to dinner there are two options. You could either choose Le Talbooth, a riverside restaurant serving outstanding food or Milsoms' which is open all day for dining and has a more informal menu. In both the cases you will be chauffeured to the restaurants in a Range Rover! We had dinner at Le Talbooth where the atmosphere was lovely and the menu was interesting. The food was well prepared and beautifully presented. It almost looked like a piece of art and tasted as good as it looked. The service was excellent and dining at Le Talbooth was definitely one of the highlights of our stay at Maison Talbooth.

The Rooms
There are 12 suites at the Maison Talbooth and each one is named after a well-known literary figure. So you have suite names like Tennyson, Newbolt, Shelley, Keats, Wordsworth and of course Shakespeare. We were allocated the Keats suite during our visit. Keats is a principal suite on the ground floor which has its own hallway leading to the main bedroom and a private outdoor terrace. There is second bedroom with bunk beds which would be perfect for kids. The suite comes with a king-sized comfortable bed, a large Samsung TV with Sky In-Room, a well-stocked mini bar, tea/coffee making facilities and an Xbox, PlayStation and DVD player in the kids bedroom. The room was well laid out and had a vintage appeal which we quite liked. The suite did not have any views over Dedham Vale as it is located at the back of the hotel, but the small outdoor terrace offered a space for relaxing with absolute privacy and made up for the lack of countryside views.
The bathroom was incredible. Spacious with a walk-through shower and the largest sunken bath we have ever seen. While the bath was truly luxurious, the walk-through shower was no less. It featured power jets to provide you with a totally invigorating shower. Bathrobes, towels, slippers and a selection of Aromatherapy Associates products completed the luxury experience.
Dining
On the food front, weather permitting you can enjoy your breakfast, lunch and the hotels' famous afternoon teas either in the Garden Room or on the terrace. Breakfast was a relaxed affair with a good choice of cold buffet items and an interesting hot/cooked breakfast menu. The staff were helpful, attentive and took care of our special dietary requirements.
