Chinese new year celebrations in London - Photos
Scores of people gathered at Trafalgar Square, Chinatown and Shaftesbury Avenue to bring the Chinese New Year (year of the dragon). The celebrations lasted the whole day today and saw dancers in various types of dragon costumes doing the dragon dance. There was fireworks display and various programmes were held throughout the day at all the three venues in London. Here are some pictures taken at all the three venues.
The London celebrations were inaguarated by the Mayor, Boris Johnson. The event however started off with the parade with lots of children and dancers participating.
At Charing Cross road, one could see the Wishing Tree with colourful wishing bags hanging from it. If you throw a bag at the tree and it stays on the tree, then according to legends your wish would come true.
People were seen enjoying the various performances, the cultural stalls selling lovely stuff anf loads of Chinese food stalls and restaurants.
Even we had a nice time today. Will be uploading the videos shortly. So keep a watch.
