The Compton Castle in Devon
The Compton Castle in Paignton, Devon is a medieval fortress with high curtain walls and towers set in a landscape of rolling hills and orchards. It's a National Trust property and some of the rooms are open to the public.
The castle has been home to the Gilbert family including Sir Humphrey Gilbert, half brother to Sir Walter Ralegh, for nearly 600 years now.
The castle is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10-30 to 4-30pm.
