The Princess Pier and Marina, Torquay - Devon
The lovely town of Torquay in Devon still retains much of its Victorian charm. The Princess Pier, pointing out into the English Channel, is a fascinating seaside pier which adds to this charm.
The pier was originally built in 1890, and a wooden landing stage was added in 1906. There was fire at the pier in 1970s and after a number of engineering works and repairs, the pier was reopened in 1979. Because of the concrete wall the pier is often mistaken for the walls of a harbour
In the summer season a selection of boat trips run regularly from the pier-head.
It is a lovely place to spend an evening. The Princess Theatre and a small shopping complex complete the picture.
